What have you done to challenge yourself lately?

It's a question that most of us kayakers ask ourselves all too often. It's what draws us to the sport. Through challenge we grow, learn and find presence.

What many of us don't realize is that challenge can be more than just a life refresher. It can be medicine...therapy. At least that's the feedback we've had at First Descents. Through legitimate outdoor challenges, our participants defy cancer, understand it, compartmentalize it and are able to live beyond their cancer.

One of the most important parts of their process at FD is to keep challenge alive in their lives beyond their week at First Descents. That challenge maintains the sense of presence, confidence and perspective they experienced at camp all while giving a newly diagnosed young adult the same opportunity to attend FD as they had. It's called TEAM FD.

The way it works:

1. Define what challenge is to you. For some it's walking a 5k. For others, like Ryan Sutter, it's competing in 10 of the world's hardest competitions in the course of one year. Go to www.teamfd.org and sign up to begin creating your own page.

2. Set a fundraising goal. All of the money you raise through TEAM FD will go towards funding the adventure experience of a young adult with cancer. 1k sends 1 participant to FD.

3. Once you've set up your page, email it out to your friends, family, coworkers, Facebook friends, strangers and anyone else you can think of and ask for their support in your challenge!

4. GET R DONE!

Email lisa@firstdescents.org with any questions.

Upcoming TEAM FD events include- Climbing for Cancer, the Leadville 100, NYC Marathon, Denver Rock n Roll Marathon and MANY MANY MORE!

KEEP THE CHALLENGE ALIVE IN YOUR LIFE SO THAT OTHERS MAY DO THE SAME!
