Until this year neither my brother nor I had ever surfed a wave as massive or as powerful as the wave at the Skookumchuck Narrows. We both have a strong creeking background, but rarely find time to go playboating, so this year we signed up for a summer session with World Class Kayak Academy. Based outside Missoula, MT the session kicked off with daily paddles down the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork, and surf sessions at Brennan's Wave. A week into the session and after an overnight park 'n huck at Mesa Falls in Idaho, we drove to the Skookumchuck Narrows. We spent five days at skook learning beginner moves and watching the locals and other professionals show off their quiver of aerial tricks. The trip was sweet and I look forward to more time in my playboat on more massive waves.
