Team River Runner is a non profit organization the provides recreational therapy to Injured Veterans through paddle sports. I have had the pleasure of watching the organization evolve from a small group of DC boaters teaching rolling in a Hospital physical therapy pool to a nation wide organization with over 20 chapters and a record of introducing over a thousand Veterans to the health, healing, and fun that kayaking offers. While TRR's growth is exciting, what has been inspirational is the privelige of witnessing many of our participants excell at kayaking while rebuilding their bodies, minds and lives after tragic and life altering injuries. TRR has a roster of participants who have become ACA Instructors, Class 5 boaters, and leaders in their paddling communities that any kayak school would be proud to equal.
Yesterday's outing was awesome! The weather and river level were perfect and we had a great group of volunteers and participants. What was really cool was that the More experienced Veterans were leading the class while TRR founder and Executive Director Joe Mornini and I stepped back into supporting roles and could focus on instructing the newest participants.
Stay tuned for more updates about TRR, including a report on the opening of TRR's newest chapter in Asheville. For more info on TRR Check out: www.teamriverrunner.org
