The Rider of the Year awards are the brainchild of Patrick Camblin. In his words "The goal of these annual awards is simply to showcase the incredible things that are done in our sport each year and highlight the people doing them. With your participation we have an international platform to stoke the fire of progression and community in kayaking." I think this is a great concept and am honored to participate both as a nominee and a judge (not of my category:)). We truly are at an incredible stage in kayaking. People are pushing boundaries across the board in freestyle, expedition, and creeking. On top of all that instruction programs and companies are opening up kayaking to more people every day. I think part of the great thing kayaking offers is that the overall experience of kayaking is very similar whether your paddling your local run, out for the weekend, or pushing the limits of the sport. Each of us has the same connection to the river and are out there for many of the same reasons. So remember kayaking is what you make it and it has something for every one. To check out the nominations click the link below, there's some pretty wild video and photos. Also stay tuned for the winners and good luck to Team Dagger members Rush Sturges, Tyler Bradt, Iker Beristain van Dusen, Chris Gragtmans, and Christie Glissmeyer!
