Got to spend some time at Great Falls on the Potomac this past week and man what a fun time! I hadn't paddled there since college and I'd forgotten how much variety there is on that river. Everything from beginner sections to Class V lines on the Falls plus scenic sections ideal for Stand Up Paddle Boards or Rec Kayaks. The thing that struck me the most was how awesome it is to have a river resource like that so close to such a large city. It's pretty wild to think that when you're boofing the Spout you're only 20 miles or so from the Whitehouse!
On to the paddling, I was fortunate enough to get to meet up with longtime local and fellow Dagger paddler Jason Beakes. Great levels allowed us to run all the sections of the Falls, although I will admit the Maryland and Virginia sides are quite rowdy at 3.5. I don't think I would have been so keen without a little harassing from Jason! I also lucked out with great levels for the O-deck waves and spent three days shredding my Axiom out there. Enjoy the photos and I'll get some video up of some the rowdy runs on Pummel and the Virginia side. Can't wait to get back!
Looking down on Jason from Grace Under Pressure, first drop of the Center Line
Rolling over the Streamers, last drop of the Center Line
Looking skyward, stern squirting in the Bermuda Triangle which might be the best stern squirting spot on the East Coast!
Family affair! My cousin Ben scouting the Center Lines
Carrying back up for another run of the Falls
The view back up Mather Gorge, such a cool place to be right next to the Capitol
Stand Up Paddling on an upper section near Jason's house.
Attaining back up, great birds in the evening!
The Ninth Tee of the Donald Trump National Golf Course, you can make up the rest:)
