Although Winter has only just officially begun the snow and ice has long since shut off most of the flow to the rivers of the Northwest. This is an amazing time of year to to enjoy water in another form and watch the mountains replenish themselves for the season to come. My Fall paddling has been held close to home as I am preparing for a major expedition but what I found is that through my gallivanting around the world I have overlooked some gems lying right in my backyard. Here are…

Last month I had the opportunity to travel to Mexico with my good friend Erik Boomer, Forge, and Camp 4 Collective. These are the types of trips I used to live for until I broke my back 18 months ago. Since then it's been a slow steady progression back into the realm of vertical waterfall running. Knowing first hand the style of rivers and waterfalls of Mexico I boarded the plane excited and nervous knowing that it was once again time to time to get my huck on. …

Graves Creek:
One of the best creeks in Montana this only gets run by a few groups every year. This year I teamed up with my long time friend Jonny Meyers to go harvest some Montana goods that neither of us had paddled before this year. …

The last couple of months I have been towing around my sweet new $300 1959 camper trailer from race event to race event hitting the scene and getting back into shape.
I have been recovering from my back break at Abiqua falls about a year ago and a finial recent surgery in which to two…

As the snow began to fly in the Northwest I loaded up in my trusty Ford Ranger and pointed it South. I picked up the rest of the team Erik Boomer and Sarah Mcnair-Laundry in LA and continued on. Our destination was Mexico. This mission was to be a little different than most. Instead of plugging off big waterfalls we we're attempting to do a seldom done crossing of the Sea of Cortez then continue descending a 300 mile long remote section of Baja Peninsula. Our crafts of choice were Triak's,…

This is the ESPN segment that E:60 put together about me. Spent a lot of time working with these guys and I am happy about how this turned out. The show was based around risk so they concentrated on the most dramatic parts of my life but still a cool segment. Check it out:

I picked up the new Mamba Creeker at the OR Show and spent no time in putting it to the text. "The Box", Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River, is one of the most intense, demanding runs in the Pacific Northwest. Three days of of incredible and burly Class V whitewater in the depths of one of the deepest boxed…

The Whitewater Grand Prix was far and away one of the most impressive whitewater competitions ever to happen. It has raised the bar for whitewater competitions and is a true testament to Whitewater Kayaking's continued progression. With the six stages of the event being of varied disciplines and held on some of the burliest and biggest water of Ontario and Quebec, this competition would decide undoubtedly the top paddlers of the world. Freestyle Showdown, Head to Head, Best Trick Contest,…

After a big wreck a couple weeks ago running Abiqua Falls I cant help but look around me at the rising rivers think about the springtime paddling which is already underway. I am sidelined until early June at the soonest so I might miss out on a lot of spring paddling, but at least I have lots of memories to reflect upon during my down time. …

The last week as been a hectic one I have to say. I set off from Montana in hopes of catching high water on the west coast for the third annual Northwest Huck Fest. Upon arriving in Hood River we found exactly what we were looking for: lots of water!
The Huck Fest…

Happy 2011 everyone! I am looking forward to the best paddling year yet and hope everyone else is too. There is never a better time than now to get out and enjoy the amazing rivers all around us. Over the holidays I flew to NYC to this interview for Anderson Cooper 360. Hopefully everyone was out enjoying the holidays with friends and family and wasn't around a television to check it out, so here it is!
