'Year of the River' film wins at National Paddling Film Festival

To a kayaker, there's just something therapeutic about watching a dam blow up.  We dream about it, we joke about it, but we don't really ever expect it to happen.  Fortunately, it did happen this year in the Pacific Northwest and we'll soon see miles of new whitewater and restored salmon runs because of it.  The story stuck a chord this weekend at the National Paddling Film Festival, where Craziest Idea won 'Best Professional Documentary' and 'Best of Show.'

VIDEO: Big Water Means Big Swims on the Colorado River

While out in Vail last week for the Teva Mountain Games, Team Wavesport's Trip Jennings and I cruised down I70 to Barrel Springs Rapid on the Colorado River for a little afternoon fun. With us was longtime paddling partner Adam Mills Elliott, who demonstrated that while a big water swim doesn't necessarily need to be a long and terrifying ordeal.

Paddlers Form Giant Floating 350 For Global Day of Action

On Saturday, October 24, nearly 200 whitewater and sea kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and canoes converged on the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon to form a giant floating 350 as part of the largest global day of climate action ever.
