Oregon's Wild & Scenic Chetco River Protected From Gold Mining

Last spring, I ventured into Oregon's remote Chetco River--a rarely paddled Wild & Scenic gem in the heart of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness.  Our trip was certainly the most epic I'd ever done in Oregon--a 2-day brutal hike in followed by 2 days of paddling through one of the most remote parts of the state.…

Eagle Creek

PDXkayaker film festival

The PDXkayaker film fest was a success again this year with a large portion of the Portland kayaking scene showing up.  The event is hosted by Next Adventure and the task of judging is set upon boaters from the community.  I always try to get something edited to submit each year.  This year school has been all consuming and I was only able to spend a short time editing, but I made sure to get something up there in an attempt to spark a sense of adventure.  The film shows a few clips from my…

Our team of four was abuzz with uncertainty during the drive to the Chetco—a remote, rarely run Wild & Scenic River in southern Oregon.  We knew that we had, at least, a 3-mile hike to get to the river from the top of Chetco Pass.  What we didn’t know was whether the road to the top of the pass would even…

Video: Team Dagger's Christie Glissmeyer on Record Waterfall Descdents, Paddling For Life

"I think it's a really healthy lifestyle," Christie said as she explained to me why she loves kayaking.  Most people might not think that setting world records for waterfall descents is necessarily a "healthy" lifestyle, but it…
