New Hampshire to the Yukon in Three Weeks

In mid May, I packed up my stuff, three pairs of skis, two pairs of ski boots, my kayaking gear, two kayaks, two mountain bikes, and my dog and drove west. Wintertime!

Although it really doesn't feel like it most days here in the southeast we've officially reached Winter.  Winter brings a lot of good things but it can often be a hard time to motivate to go kayaking.  After all snow, sleet, winter mix, or rain when its 35 degrees don't really scream "let's go get wet".  However if I can get past that some of the best days I've had on the river have been in the Winter.  For me it really brings a different feel, it's often super quite and less crowded.  Often…

French Broad River Clean-up

River clean-ups give you a great sense for what people think of as trash and what they just throw into the environment. Apparently chewing tobacco cans and most plastic bottles are thought of as disposable, major bummer there:( The list of the more interesting ranged from fishing rods to motorcycle helmets to fisher price toys and of course car tires (I think the total was close to twenty).… Continue
