Whitewater Grand Prix!

The Whitewater Grand Prix was far and away one of the most impressive whitewater competitions ever to happen. It has raised the bar for whitewater competitions and is a true testament to Whitewater Kayaking's continued progression. Why Everyone Should Kayak

Recently I have been asked by a number of people why I kayak. More specifically, what exactly is it about kayaking that makes it so special that I am willing to mold my life around it. After fielding this question a number of times, I started to think about all the reasons why I think kayaking is so great.

*Anyone can do it- With the versatility in the sport of kayaking today, it really does allow for anyone to be able to take part. Between recreational kayaks, sea…

Team Dagger Paddle at the River Store in Coloma, CA

Just checking in from California to say what an awesome time we had on the water yesterday with our Team Dagger Paddle at the Riverstore in Coloma, CA yesterday! The weather could not have been better and the water level was great. California local and Dagger friend Diane Gaydos helped me out with the paddle and we were joined by lots of great people for a run down the "C to G" section of the South Fork of the American.…

Idaho River Explosion - Year 2

Simply put, Idaho whitewater is famed for being big.  Last year, the kayaking world witnessed the explosion of water down the North Fork of the Payette and created one of the largest and most technical runs in the World.  What caused this run off was a combination of several warm weeks preceding with above average snow pack and then a massive rain storm which dropped about 2in of rain.  This combination resulted a utterly massive and powerful river, and if you haven't gotten a chance to…

Summer Training! It's Gonna Be A Big One!

If you're anything like me, texting and driving is safe compared to driving along a river in the spring time! This year is especially bad if you live in the Northern Rockies, California or the Northwest. After a MASSIVE snow year, all signs are pointing to an equally epic run off. It's time to get ready for spring, paddling and all things awesome!

Here are a few key pointers to get ready for big water.

1. MOBILITY IS KEY! Avoiding injuries is better than rehabbing and…

Sandy River Showdown

For such a young event, the Sandy River Showdown certainly had its act together.  It could have been the perfect weather, or the Mt Hood Community College film crew following the competitors around everywhere; either way, the event was a success.

Downriver races on Saturday attracted both World…

"I think it's a really healthy lifestyle," Christie said as she explained to me why she loves kayaking.  Most people might not think that setting world records for waterfall descents is necessarily a "healthy" lifestyle, but it…

Get yer boof on!

Refining Your Boof: Avoiding Landing on your Edge

You’re a boofing machine!  The timing and placement of the stroke are no longer a mystery and you’re boofing everything in sight.  The next step is to begin refining your technique.  In this piece I want to shift the focus from the beginning to the end, that’s right the landing.  By perfecting your landing you give yourself more control, which is a very good thing when those drops start stacking…

My team just won the Robe Canyon downriver race!

I just got done racing at the Robe Canyon Downriver race.  It was a two person team event.  The time stopped once both team members crossed the finish line.  Darren (Little D) and I won the race with a time of just a bit over 28 minutes.

It was a great race course with many places to save, and lose time.  There was even a mandatory portage as part of the race.  It was the most unique race I have ever attended.

Hope to see you there next year.
