South Branch Middle Feather

If your not in Cali right now you should be. South Branch is for sure one of the best one day runs in Cali, perhaps in the world. Not sure about the world part but if you have been all around the world then perhaps you can chime in. There have been so many people up on the S Branch this year and it is getting ran…

My first time going off a ramp

Just before flying out to Slovakia Red Bull called and asked me if I wanted to attend an event in Richmond with a kayak ramp. I had never been off a ramp in my kayak and didn't want to embarrass myself in front of 25,000 people so I turned them down. Next my team manager called and told me the city really wanted me there and that he would appreciate it if I would attend. I told him if he didn't mind me landing on my head every time and I'd do it.

After getting back from Slovakia I had… Continue

Yoga for Kayaking: Neck Stretches

In a recent yoga class the teacher encouraged us to roll up out of a side-bending pose with our heads as the last body part to come up. I had to giggle because she sounded just like a kayak instructor teaching

the roll! As she was giving her instructions she made the comment that

bringing our heads up last can be challenging because we tend to be a

society of 'head yankers.'

I see a lot of head yanking when I teach the roll and most of us have experienced the sensation…

Review of the Axiom 8.5

I've been waiting to get my hands on an Axiom for a while now because I had a feeling it was going to be the ultimate boat for my home river, the Potomac. Last Friday I borrowed on from Chuck Morris, our regional Confluence rep and proceeded to have one of my best paddling sessions in months!

In my opinion a key test of a boat design is the ability…

The sun has been shining brightly on the greater Northern Oregon area which is a rare treat out here. Luckly the rivers we have been knocking off arn't too rain dependent. t
We Started off at Metlako three days ago with some awesome time free falling off the picture perfect 80 fter.

From here we hiked into Finial Falls which is about a 3.5 mile hectic hike in followed by a crazy descent into the salmon river gorge. But we were rewarded with…

French Broad River Clean-up

This past weekend I joined American Whitewater for a river clean-up on section nine of the French Broad. River clean-ups give you a great sense for what people think of as trash and what they just throw into the environment. Apparently chewing tobacco cans and most plastic bottles are thought of as disposable, major bummer there:( The list of the more interesting ranged from fishing rods to motorcycle helmets to fisher price toys and of course car tires (I think the total was close to twenty).… Continue
