Are you going to paddle into the wave or be towed in? 30 to 40 ft waves move very fast (faster then you can paddle) and you do not want to be in the impact zone if you miss a wave.

How to loose a race in 5 seconds
I recently got back from the Teva Mountain Games were I had my worst results this year. Well, actually it was my worst result in over 5 years. I had a 3rd place finish in the non-modified kayak category for the downriver, and was 7th in the extreme race. On the last drop in the extreme race I got pushed into the rocks on the left side of the river which cost me about 5 seconds. My most dissappointing Teva Mountain Games ever!
I just returned home from the Teva Mountain Games where I had my most disappointing results that I have had in over five years of racing. In the extreme race I finished 7th. I don't think I've had that poor of a finish in a decade of racing. In the downriver race I finished 3rd in the non-modified boats. My team just won the Robe Canyon downriver race!
I just got done racing at the Robe Canyon Downriver race. It was a two person team event. The time stopped once both team members crossed the finish line. Darren (Little D) and I won the race with a time of just a bit over 28 minutes. It was a great race course with many places to save, and lose time. There was even a mandatory portage as part of the race. It was the most unique race I have ever attended. Hope to see you there next year. TaoSee More

Northwest Kayaking Competition
I just got done competing at the Northwest Creeking Competition. It's the biggest and most fun event to race at on the west coast. I'm not just saying that because I won all three races. running waterfalls, with skill!
With all the broken backs lately I thought I would make a post about running waterfalls, and doing it well. Back when my focus was on running waterfalls the group I was paddling with rarely ever got hurt. I attribute that to three things. Better fundamental paddling skills, better ability to read the water, and better judgment. Obviously gravity determines that we will all make it to the bottom of the waterfall.
