Hi Everyone on Team Dagger!

Stoked to be a member and wanted to start a discussion about a trip me and 2 of my buddies are planning for next spring.

So me and my buddy went on a surf/SUP trip to wilmington(surf trip if we score waves, SUP if it's FLAT!)and while driving up we were going alongside the ICWW for portions of the trip and he was wondering how long it would take to paddle the entire ICWW.

Well, we're not trying to do that YET, but we are looking at the possibility of paddling from either Wilmington/Carolina Beach or Southport NC to where we live in charleston SC.

I've paddled on the ICWW but I've never done any serious mileage on it. Our tentative plan for right now is to have a canoe and possibly 2 paddleboards so we have the option of someone jumping on for certain legs of the trip or when someone gets tired of paddling the canoe or vice versa.

We're going to work with a breast cancer charity for this and raise money for them, so we're probably going to paint/wrap the boards and canoe in pink or maybe just the canoe depending on the costs. We're also going to be looking for places along the way to camp and hoping some people would donate their floating dock or a marina that would be ok with us camping either on their docks or on their property somewhere.

We'll also be contacting local guiding companies to maybe gain their help in spreading the word and having themselves and others in their region to join in on their sections of the paddle and help us maybe get some local companies to help with donating food for the crew or just help us get an order(only 3 of us so food shouldn't be a problem whether it's donated or we pay for it, not looking to profit from this but also not looking to go overboard on expenses either.).

So everyone who has any experience, please chime in and give your 2cents. Pros and cons, looking for all opinions. How long will it take to go from wilmington to charleston?

cheers

Hi Chad,

I posted a note over on the Facebook page asking for advice and got a few tips. They are cons, unfortunately, but may be helpful none-the-less.  Hopefully a few others will chime in with their 2 cents!

Thanks Dagger Marketing! Really appreciate it! Yeah both of those comments are just what I already knew from experience. You can almost always find a place that's semi sheltered. Not worried a bit about alligators. I've had some encounters but they've never been aggressive thanks god!

The wind would be more of a factor for the SUP as your like a big sail standing there. We'd have my Dagger 14' Alchemy, 18' canoe and an SUP or 2 and something would be in tow the whole time.

So far nobody has said anything that discourages me from this trip. Think Dagger would want to be a sponsor? We'll have gopros on all the watercraft and will be setting up a website as well. Hoping this gets other people to join in the paddle in their regions that we'll paddle through, so I think it would be great exposure for Dagger/Confluence.

Also I'm a music supervisor so if you need any music for your media, please let me know, I'll hook it up. I've worked with Rush Sturges on some of his latest and greatest! That guy is amazing.

cheers
