I have recently bought the new Mamba 7.5 with a creek seat. I feel like I need to move the seat forward a bit, but it seems a bit more complicated with the creek seat. Please could you give me a bit of info about moving it

Hi Jennie,

first off congrats on the new purchase, the mamba's a great kayak. Second you can move the seat forward it takes just a little more time than the play seat. You'll need a phillips head screw driver as your only tool. First, you'll want to completely unscrew the bolt at the front of the seat (it connects the seat to the center wall). Take care not to loose it in the center wall cavity:) Next loosen the bolts on the sides of the cockpit (the two that are right next to each other), do not unscrew them all the way. Now put the washers and tops of those bolts flush with the boat. You can do this by hitting down on the handle of the screwdriver while its vertical in the bolt. You're ready to move your seat. It should slide forward with a little bit of persuasion. If you can't get it to move stand it vertical, put your hands on the back of the seat, and pull down. When you're moving it you'll want to make sure that you line the front (the part that connects to the center wall) up with the pre-existing holes. There should be three of these, so you should be able to move your seat forward at least one which should be plenty. Do check though sometimes they come mounted all the way back. Last tighten everything back down and you're good to go! Good lines and have fun out there. As always if you're having trouble please don't hesitate to ask more questions here in the forum.

I just bought a new 8.0 with the creek seat and it was incredibly hard to adjust. I made the hangers as loose as I dare, and even hung on the seat with boat vertical (as suggested in another post) but in the end had to take a rubber hammer to it. Is this typical?
Hey George,

Did you completely unscrew and remove the bolt at the front of the seat (it connects the seat to the step out pillar)? You'll need to this and then you'll be able to access the three pre-drilled seat positions. You can also refer to this article for more info, or ask more questions here on the forum: http://www.teamdagger.com/profiles/blogs/outfitting-your-dagger-kayak

Hi Andrew- I did indeed completely remove the bolt in the front- carefully so that the bolt and washer did not fall into the center pillar (needed little fingers for that one). I was able to move the seat one position- but I guess my point was that I wouldn't probably be able to make the adjustment easily on the spur of the moment. I'm guessing that as I use the boat more, everything will loosen up a bit.
Hey George,
That is correct the creek seat does not make adjustments as quickly or easily as the play seat (there are also only three pre-drilled positions). Personally I feel this is an acceptable trade off as the creek seat provides much more structural integrity not only to the seat but the entire kayak. You are also right that it will get easier to change the seat position but you'll always have to unscrew the bolts. Good luck and I imagine that you'll find that having the seat all the way forward as you currently do is the best position. That seems to be the general consensus for most folks. See you on the river
