Hey I would like the details on how you outfitted your Approach! Thanks!
What did you do about hip pads?

Hi Micah,

I used basic mini cell foam hip pads that can be purchased at nearly any paddle shop. They come pre-shaped but with just a few mintues and some sandpaper can be shaved to a custom fit. As for attaching them I used spray adhesive although you can also use barge cement. Use the sandpaper to rough up the area you will be attaching the pad to in the hip area of the boat. Put a thin layer of glue on both the back of the hip pad AND the freshly roughed up area in the boat. Wait about 30 seconds to a minute until both become tacky and then put them together. Thats about it. I would suggest that before you glue them in to sit in the boat and figure out the perfect combonation of hip pad location, thigh hook location and foot placement. Then mark where the pads go, hop out, and then glue them in. Hope this helps. Any other questions feel free to drop me a line at any time!

What area feels like it needs work? You can add paddling to the thigh hook area or even to bulkhead if needed. What type of paddling are you doing?

I am a bigger paddler, that is why I have the approach. You are right I don't seem to have enough support in the thigh area. The shell seems to give when I apply knee pressure. I havn't been able to roll it yet, though I can roll creekers. I am paddling Class 1 and 2 rapids and looking to get into some class 3s. Have you replaced the factory footpegs?

Thanks,

Chris

I have not replaced the foot pegs. I dont really use mine in whitewater but rather mild moving water with my kids. Do you think you need to replace yours?
Well....they feel a little shaky when I am in faster moving water and try to brace. The plastic seems to give a little which makes me nervous. Can you roll yours? If so, which roll do you use?

Yes, just a basic sweep roll.
